It depends on your visa type and immigration category. Most applicants will need a General Medical Certificate (INZ 1007), especially if you're applying to stay in New Zealand for more than 12 months or applying for residence.
Some people, such as partners or dependent children of New Zealand citizens or residents, may qualify to use the Limited Medical Certificate (INZ 1201).
If you're only required to complete a chest x-ray (for example, based on your country of origin or length of stay), then a Chest X-ray Certificate (INZ 1096) will be sufficient.More information can be found on the Immigration New Zealand website.

The tests required depend on your age and the type of certificate. Most applicants will undergo a physical exam, a urine test, and blood tests.
Applicants 11 years and older usually also require a chest x-ray.
Women over 45 may require a breast exam.
Children under 5 typically only need a physical check.

You should allow about 30 to 45 minutes for your medical examination and blood tests. If you also require a chest x-ray, it will be scheduled separately and takes about 15 additional minutes.
In some cases, extra time may be needed depending on your health history or if further investigation is required.

We aim to submit your completed medical to Immigration New Zealand within 2–3 working days.
If anything in your exam or test results needs follow-up, we’ll contact you right away and help you organise any additional information or assessments.

No fasting is required — you can eat and drink normally before your appointment.
Avoid consuming kava for at least 48 hours before your blood test, as it may affect your liver function results.
If you are menstruating, we can proceed with the examination, but you may need to return for a urine test once your period has finished.Women over 45 may also need to undergo a breast exam, you can choose to bring a recent report from a specialist instead.

Please bring your valid passport — this is the preferred form of ID for Immigration New Zealand.
If you don't have a passport, certain alternatives may be accepted, such as a certificate of identity, refugee travel document, or national identity card with a photo.

Immigration medicals and occupational health checks are not covered by ACC or most insurance plans, as they’re not considered treatment for illness or injury. All costs are paid by the applicant or their employer.

You can still complete your immigration medical. Please bring a list of your current medications and any relevant health documents or specialist letters. This helps the doctor assess your health accurately and avoid delays.
